    What a play is

A play is one repeatable DOOH tactic built around one football moment. It names the screens to buy, the audience or geography to target and the hours to run. “Gameday Ring” means every venue type inside two miles of a stadium (three for suburban stadiums), from six hours before kickoff to three after, home games only. “Ride Home” means rideshare tops and in-car screens in the ring for two hours after the final whistle, plus late-night QSR. Each play is specific enough to buy on Monday and general enough to reuse across markets all season.

This page has all 61: pro, college, plays that work for both, high-school Friday nights and always-on. One entry is a calendar note rather than a buyable tactic, and it’s marked that way. Filter by league, category or moment, then check the category recipes below.

    How the plays fit together

Most football plans combine three to six plays that follow the fan through a weekend. The stock-up plays hit grocery, liquor and convenience stores in the two days before a game. Game-day morning is coffee, QSR, gas and gyms. The drive in is highway and roadside boards on the inbound corridors, and the ring is the streets, bars and convenience stores around the stadium. The watch party is bars, casual dining and sports venues in fan-dense blocks. The ride home is rideshare and late food, and the weekday plays keep you around for the commute and the Monday recap.

Tentpole, holiday and postseason plays sit on top of that base. Thanksgiving, Christmas, rivalry week, conference championships, bowls, the playoffs and the Big Game each get their own play, because each one moves fans somewhere new. The offseason has plays too: the draft, the Combine, schedule release and fantasy draft season.

Where a sample plan exists, the card links to its live map and proposal on client-map.media-dooh.com. Start there and change the markets, flight and budget. It’s faster than a blank page.

    Targeting: blocks, markets and rings

Plays use three kinds of targeting. Census-block audiences reach the neighborhoods that index highest for a fan segment: American football, NFL, college football, college sports, fantasy sports, or sports betting (legal states only). On top of that are fan cohorts for all 32 pro teams. It’s cookieless, based on where fan-dense households are, with no tracking of individuals.

Market targeting matters most for college. NFL fandom is national, and at DMA level almost every market sits between 92 and 110. Blocks indexing 115+ for American football average 169, which is why pro plays go block by block. College fandom is regional, and Birmingham, Columbus-Tupelo, Montgomery, Huntsville, Lincoln and Wichita lead at DMA level. College plays go market by market, then block by block.

Stadium rings cover the hours around kickoff. The Stadium Explorer shows how many screens sit inside two miles of each stadium, so you know whether the ring can carry a play alone or needs a corridor and fan-block layer around it.

Creative that stays on the right side of the rules

Every play assumes generic football creative. Only official sponsors can use league and team marks, “Super Bowl” or “Super Sunday.” School names, logos, mascots and conference or playoff marks need a license. A team color scheme plus city and football imagery can infringe even with no logo. So the plays use “the Big Game,” “game day,” “Saturday,” “rivalry weekend” and city names, in your own brand colors. Good creative doesn’t need the logo anyway.

Programmatic screens take new creative within hours, so we pre-build score-agnostic city and moment versions and swap them by market as the season moves. Team names, nicknames, player names and team color schemes never appear.

Alcohol, sportsbook and prediction-market plays carry extra rules. They run in 21+ venues only, never on or next to a campus, and only in states where the product is legal and live. The full guardrails are at the bottom of this page.

    How football plays are measured

Every play gets proof-of-play reporting per tactic. That’s a record of where and when the ads ran, broken out by play, so you can compare the ring, the corridor, the stock-up and the watch party instead of blending them into one number.

For outcomes, plans can include geo holdout tests (exposed DMAs vs. matched control DMAs) and web and search lift in the markets and dayparts where the plays ran. Brand lift comes from an independent brand lift study on request.

Football makes clean tests unusually easy, because the schedule hands you control groups. Compare a team’s home weekend with its road weekend, a market with a game against a market on bye, or a rivalry town against a similar town without a game. We design the plan around those contrasts from day one.

Plans run through deal IDs in your own DSP or fully managed by Goldfish. Either way, the plan, the map and the proposal live on client-map.media-dooh.com, and reporting follows the same per-tactic structure.

Plan around dates with the season calendar, or start from a stadium in the Stadium Explorer.

The rules, so your legal team doesn't have to go find them
    League and team marks
Only official sponsors may use league or team names, logos, uniforms, player likenesses, “Super Bowl®” or “Super Sunday®.” Use “the Big Game,” “game day,” “football season” and city names. No “congratulations” or “good luck” ads aimed at teams. Outcome-based creative is score-agnostic and city-level only. No tickets in sweepstakes.
    College marks
School names that imply affiliation, logos, mascots and conference, NCAA or CFP marks all need a license. Use “Saturday,” “rivalry weekend” and Goldfish or advertiser brand colors. NIL covers the athlete, not the uniform.
    Alcohol
Industry codes require 73.6% (beer), 73.7% (wine) and 73.8% (spirits) of the audience to be 21+. That means 21+ venues, off campus, following state distance-from-school rules.
    Team colors
Never combine a team color scheme with city and football imagery. That's a trade-dress risk even without logos (LSU v. Smack Apparel). Use Goldfish or advertiser brand colors.
    Prediction markets (sports event contracts)
Treated like sportsbooks: 21+ venues, no campus or campus-adjacent screens, no college-athlete likeness and no league, team or “Big Game” references. Excluded in any state with active enforcement, currently including CT (which ordered nine platforms to halt advertising on Sept 16, 2026), NV, MI and UT, plus other orders and injunctions, re-checked weekly. The NFL bars prediction-market ads from its broadcasts, and the NCAA has asked the CFTC to halt college contracts. Legal review before every flight.
    Clean zones
Host cities often set up temporary commercial-sign “clean zones” around major events (New Orleans ran a nine-day zone for the 2025 Big Game). Before Big Game week in LA/Inglewood and the Jan 25 title game in Las Vegas, we check for any ordinance and keep creative on permanent, permitted digital screens.
    Sportsbooks
31 states + DC have legal online betting (verified before launch). Wisconsin legalized tribal mobile betting in Apr 2026 but isn't live, so no app promotion there until launch. No ads in AL, AK, CA, GA, HI, ID, MN, OK, SC, TX or UT. In retail-only states (MS, MT, NE, NM, ND, SD, WA), don't promote apps. AGA code: 73.6%+ of the audience 21+, no campuses, no college partnerships or college-athlete NIL, and no “risk-free.” College player props are banned in 13-15 states.
